The LAMS is the only laboratory, at the service of farmers and vineyards managers which, routinely qualify and quantify the soil mesofauna (insects, worms, collembolan, acarids, etc…). The LAMS has discovered many species new to science. The quantification of the soil mesofauna completes the measure of the soil biological activity. By combining the two we have a better understanding of the soil’s dynamic. This, allows us to better advise you in all the different aspects of soil management. The soil’s fauna is divided in 3 major groups :
  • The epigeous fauna which is present only in the top horizon of the soil. It is especially abundant in the litter. The organisms found in this group are very important in the humus formation cycle.
  • The anecic fauna includes all the different species of earthworms. They allow the mixing of the soil’s top horizon with the deep horizon. They dig vertical burrows which essential for good soil aeration.
  • The endogenous fauna is present and thrives only in the deep soil horizons. They feed on dead roots and ensure the good aeration of soil at these depths. Their presence in good number indicates a healthy soil.

You can discover these wonderful organisms by checking our picture gallery.
